How to make a photo album on your phone

To keep photos together for yourself, make an album in the phone’s Gallery or in Google Photos: select the photos, add them to a new album and give it a name.

When the photos are on many phones, as after a trip or a wedding, you need a shared album that everyone adds to. Yaadgaar is one: everyone’s photos go into one private album, and the best of them become a photo book.

An album just for you

In Google Photos, select the photos, tap + (or Add to), choose Album and type a name. Google’s own help page shows each step.

The phone’s Gallery app makes albums too. The button’s name differs from one phone maker to another.

Either way the album lives on your phone or in your account, and nobody else adds to it.

An album everyone adds to

Google Photos can share an album: you send a link, and the people you share it with can add their photos too. Google’s help page on sharing explains the settings.

Yaadgaar is made for this one job. One person starts a circle and sends a code on WhatsApp. Everyone who joins adds their photos, from their phone or straight from a WhatsApp chat, and each photo is filed under the month it was taken, so the album reads in order.

Only the people in the circle see the photos. Members see each other’s names, never a phone number or an email.

With Yaadgaar, step by step

  1. Start a circle

Install Yaadgaar from Google Play and start a circle. Give it a name, such as “Goa 2026” or “Garg family”.

  2. Invite the others

Open Circle, tap Invite someone and send the code on WhatsApp. They join with “I have an invite code” and type only their name.

  3. Add photos

Tap the note about new photos on the Timeline, or tap Add photos and pick them. Photos in a WhatsApp chat can be shared straight into Yaadgaar.

  4. Make something of it

When the album holds a festival, a trip or a month worth keeping, tap Make yaadein.

Then: a book and a video

Yaadgaar turns any month, trip or festival in the album into yaadein: a photo book you can print at any photo shop, a link that opens in any browser, and a short video for WhatsApp Status.

What Yaadgaar does not do

  • Yaadgaar is for Android phones today. On an iPhone you can read a yaadein somebody shares, in the browser, but not add photos.
  • It keeps a copy of each photo at up to 2,400 pixels, not the original file, so it is not a backup of your camera.
  • Video clips cannot be added: only photos.
